World's Largest Truck Convoy - September 26, 2009


The World's Largest Truck Convoy (WLTC) for Special Olympics is an annual event which unites law enforcement and truckers to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes. More than 3,000 trucks - big rigs to dump trucks - will traverse 1,000 miles during this Guinness Book of World Record breaking event.

Washington State Truckers will drive their rigs in the convoy locally.
Local law enforcement will escort the convoy to the final destination

  • Over $25,000 was raised in Washington State in 2008 Over 1,700 trucks and nearly $643,000 raised in 2008 nationally
   
Why:
Special Olympics Washington athletes train in various sports throughout the year. Their participation is free, so law enforcement and the trucking industry are helping to continue to help provide these sports opportunities to the athletes.
   
How to get involved:
  • Trucking companies can choose from a variety of sponsorship opportunities
  • Trucking companies and truckers can register by completing the registration form.
  • Trucking companies bid additional sponsorship funds to win the spot of lead convoy truck.
  • Spectators can line the route or attend the celebration event.
   
Founder:
The WLTC was founded by Corporal Norm Schniederhan special project coordinator with the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff’s Department. Inspired by the powerful impact Special Olympics had on his life through his participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run®, Schneiderhan combined his family’s involvement with the trucking industry and his experience with Special Olympics to create this one-day celebration.

  • Sponsorship amounts are tax-deductible in accordance with applicable laws
  • Additional lunches can be purchased at registration for $5.00 each.
  • Left over t-shirts can be purchased at the Final Destination lunch celebration.
  • Raffle tickets will be sold at the Final Destination for a chance to win great prizes including the 5 gallon buckets filled with items valued up to $1000!
  • Interested in your company being the lead truck during the Convoy? You may bid for this privileged position the morning of the Convoy at the Tacoma Dome at 8AM.
